Our guest panelist this week is Ben Brody, an independent photographer, educator and picture editor, former U.S. Army soldier and author of the book Attention service member, which is about his time working as a combat photographer in the Army.
How Instagram Steals Your Imagery
Our first topic this week deals with Instagram and the tendency for it grab your rights without asking, I hate it when a person or organization grabs something of mine without asking. I think it’s rude. Zach thought it was rude as well and wrote a story about it that you can find right now on our website aroundthelens.com.
Mashable.com wanted to use a photo of award-winning photographer Yunghi Kim for their story about female photojournalists, sounds great right! she was flattered and wanted to work out a licensing agreement with Mashable, they didn’t want to pay, so she said, ok, thanks, but no thanks, so they went and just embedded her photo from Instagram onto their site. She sued, and the judge ruled in favor of Mashable, citing their terms and conditions which granted them full rights to their images. How should we feel about Mashable? How should we feel about Instagram? How do you feel about this situation?
The Canon R5 Becomes More Real
The next story tonight is about the Canon R5, this mythical spec monster that when released, will be the most powerful camera in it’s form factor. Sporting features like 8K30, 4K120, IBIS, dual pixel auto focus, and all without crop is amazing. What do we think of this camera? Is it on our wish list? Why or why not? How much do you think the camera will cost? How much will you pay.
Small Business’s Struggling to Get COVID-19 Relief
Our final topic tonight is about COVID-19…because a week can’t go by with a little virus talk. We’re talking about monetary relief. Have you received your money from the government? Will it be enough to get you through this difficult time? How are you doing overall, and when do you think things will return to normal?
