Hi there, my name is Tanner Campbell and this is a brief explanation of what to expect from my upcoming podcast: Beneath The Stone.
I'm a Mythologist. Well, an amatuer one anyway. My expertise, such as it is, comes from having read over a thousand individual pieces folklore, mythology, and fairy tale. Some of that was your mainstream big name stuff, your Greek and Norse literature for example, but most of it was stuff you haven't been able to find in print for well over a century. The cultures many of these stories came from no longer exist, in some cases the countries they come from no longer exist either.
This podcast is just me narrating these stories. That's it.
I'm working with my good friend Nico Vettese, to make sure that these stories are paired with original music, composed from stractch and specifically for them, which matches the authenticity of both the age from which these stories come and the culture from which they originate.
Not every story will be a thousand years old - but some will. Not every story will be one you haven't heard before, but most will.
I've titled the podcast Beneath The Stone as a nod to Charles Kingsley and his retelling of the Theseus myth. You'll come to find out later what it means but for now, know that it is a metaphor about self discovery - something central to my love of mythology and folklore.
In addition to sharing stories with you, I'll also be sharing thoughts. These thoughts will often revolve around finding meaning in the stories told on this podcast. I promist not to wax too philosophical, but I do believe allegory is important and that we denizens of moderninity need more of it in our lives - I can only hope that those who find this podcast, feel the same.
Episodes, for now, will be released in batches. Each batch of episodes may or may not have elements in common, they may or may not all come from the same culture or country, and they may or many not all feature the same character, it depends on how I feel when I'm putting these story batches together. As far as release frequency, I think you can expect, at a minimum, that batches of six will be released every 3-months. That's the starting minimum. As the podcast grows, I'll increase the frequency and maybe we'll get up to weekly or, dare I say it, daily.
And that wraps up this intro, just about. There's one last thing. I'd like you to be involved, so I've created a Facebook group which you can join, for free by going to BeneathTheStone.CO/group - which will redirect you to the Facebook Group. After each episode I'll post some thoughts and ask everyone for theirs. This is a good way to have an organized discussion and hopefully get more people involved.
And that's it.
Thanks for taking the time to listen to this introductory episode and I hope you'll come back for the first batch of stories. Until then, take care.
