Our world spends a lot of time trying to find out who we are. To know who we are, we must know God. If we do not know God, it is too easy to become confused. As important as it is to know who we are, it is just as important to know who we are not. The world wants to put labels on us, but sometimes we have to declare that we are not what they say. Life has a way of dragging us through the mud, but we are not what we have been drug through. In our text, Paul reminds us that we will experience trouble, but that our troubles do not define us. Life will press us, but not crush us. We can be perplexed. We will encounter people who do not believe in us, and even worse, that will attack us because of what we believe. Even if we live a good, Godly life, we will encounter hard places in life. The answer is that Jesus can and will make a way. When we try to do good, the enemy will come against us to knock us down. Our text is clear that we may be pressed, perplexed, trapped, and cast down. But it is also clear that these He makes a way through all of those things and more. We do not know why these things happen, but we do know that He is there and that He wants what is best for us. Just because we are cast down, does not mean that we are cast out. The bible says in Michah when I fall. That means that it will happen. But it goes on to say, “I shall arise.” There is something special about someone who falls but will get back up. If we get back up, we cannot be defeated. The world, and often our flesh tells us that we are a failure, that we are not worthy, that we are defeated. Paul tells us that we may be some of those things, but more importantly, he tells us what we are not. Stand today and declare: I Am Not!
