We live in a self centered society. If we are not careful, that spirit will manifest itself in our faith. Our faith has to be such that we believe that our life can be blessed by God. This is true, but it is more true that four faith should compel us to be used by God for something that matters to Him. On this weekend we honor those who gave the ultimate sacrifice in the service of their country. These people were passionate enough about what they believed in to lay down their life for it. God is wanting to move us to a higher calling. He is wanting us to be drawn from where we are to where He needs us to be. The enemy is all that he will ever be, but you and I can grow to more than we can even imagine if we follow God to where He is leading. We can go to another level and overcome any obstacle placed in our path. We have to make up our mind to get out of our comfort zone and move. When something is meant to grow, there is no such thing as standing still. We have to grow. We cannot be content to be the man or woman that we were last year. The enemy does not want us to reach our purpose. He will try to keep us from growing. God has an expected end for us and we are not complete until we reach that place. We cannot be content to be moved from where we were, but must strive to achieve what God has planned for us. He doesn't want to just change us from what we were, He wants to make us into what He desires. There is an all out attack against purpose and destiny. The theory of evolution is an attack. It says that life and mankind is a happy accident. If that is true, there is no true purpose. Nothing could be further from the truth! We are fearfully and wonderfully made by the creator for HIs divine purpose! There has been much talk about “what is my purpose”, but there is more than jsut finding our purpose. The only way to find God’s specific purpose, is to live a life that follows the general will of God. Doing that creates a momentum that allows God to guide us to the path that will reveal that purpose. An object at rest is hard to direct, but one that is moving is more easily moved in the direction it needs to go. God does not do anything without a purpose and an identity. When he creates something, he places into it the potential to achieve His purpose. Within every acorn, is the potential to be a mighty oak. Not everyone makes it. Some acorns fall to the ground. They may sprout, but they fail to grow. The reality is that more acorns die than grow to a mighty oak. There are many people who have potential, but they simply exist and do not grow. We may be an acorn now, but we do not have to remain an acorn. Potential is a paradox: Nothing great ever happens without potential, but potential itself will not become great. We have to add to potential to achieve greatness. In order to move from potential to greatness, we have to begin. If we never begin, all the potential in the world is useless. If the acorn fails to grow, it will die. We have to move past what we have always been. We cannot be content with how things have always been. Some acorns that fall and die do serve a purpose. Some become food for animals. Others will be absorbed back to the soil to provide nutrients. They serve a purpose, but not His purpose. We have to strive to be more than food for squirrels. It is not enough to have a purpose driven life, but must have a destiny driven life. One of the greatest tragedies is someone who serves a purpose, and never realizes their destiny. We cannot settle for a lesser purpose. We cannot settle for a mere function. If we are going to be in a house of God, then let us be a source of strength. Let us be something that matters and makes a difference in the lives of others. There comes a time when an acorn is no longer an acorn, but becomes a tree; the identity changes. Once it becomes a tree, everything changes. God is still calling for oak trees. We do not have to be in the ministry to be an oak tree. God is looking for men and women to are willing to plant themselves to do something to make a difference. He is looking for someone who wants to do something that outlives them. He is looking for someone to fulfil their destiny. It is time for someone to become what God wants them to be. For an acorn to become an oak tree, it has to break out of the shell. For us to achieve what God wants us to be, we have to break out of the shell and resolve that “I will not die an acorn.”
