But behind the fame and critical acclaim is a man perpetually getting into trouble. Whether it's disappointing a skydiving instructor mid-flight, hiding from thugs in a bush wearing a bright red dress, or annoying the Kettering Board Games club, a didgeridoo-playing conspiracy theorist and some bemused Christians, James is always finding new ways to embarrass himself. Appearing on Josh Widdicombe's radio show to recount these stories, the feature was christened 'James Acaster's classic scrapes'. Here, in his first book, James recounts these tales (including never-before-heard stories) in all their glorious stupidity. Critic Reviews: "James Acaster has a brilliant comic mind, crackling with energy every bit as much as his corduroy slacks." (Milton Jones) "I don't think I've ever read a book that has made me cry with laughter as much as this one. It was very difficult reading it in public as I looked like a madman." (Richard Herring) Members Reviews: Bright and enjoyable A pleasure to listen to. James sees the nuances of his goofy predicaments, and delivered a steady stream of smiles for me. His Northamptonshire accent has a rambling and mumbling lack of pretence, the opposite of the superior attitude of some comics who want you to know how clever they are. The Scrape Master James Acaster is one of the funniest comedians working in the UK today. I highly recommend this book, chronicling the many scrapes he's gotten into over the course of his life, to anyone who is a fan of Acaster, as well as to anyone who likes a good laugh. Hilariously entertaining These Scrapes are endlessly entertaining and laugh out loud funny. The red dress in a bush story almost killed me I was laughing so hard. hilarious James is a wonderful story teller and has a unique sense of what's funny. cracked me up A wow! scenario Even if you are a better driver than James (almost certain), there are moments behind the wheel that were touch and go due to laughing awfully hard. Highly entertaining, well-paced, a pleasure to read and listen to and with some interesting thoughts percolating throughout about openness to experience, finding one's place, the mysteries of human behavior and always having a red dress to hand. A different look at a performer who frequently appears somewhat arch -- here, you get a view of someone bright, genuine, genuinely interested in the world and people around him. All while being terribly funny. Great, made me reasonably excited for the commute each day. Contact me for any questions: inforeq17@gmail.com
