Make the Information your own. Make it your art. - Caro Burckle - Episode 60

Hey There, and welcome to this weeks episode on the weMove podcast. This is the third podcast from our recent trip to the US.
Back in Issue 1 we hung out with Carl Paoli, the former gymnast, turned movement specialist. He said often that we should move by feel, and that whilst there are principles of movement, these are often lost in the desire to follow the method verbatim, with little appreciation for the principles which the method is based upon. 
Inevitably this leads to a robotic like pursuit of something that is unknown, a hollow approach to experiencing something so physical. 

And that is where we are exploring today with former Olympic swimming medalist, Caro Burckle. 
For an Olympian athlete under the spotlight, she experienced the intensity required to meet the requirements of others. The requirement to win, and with it the mechanistic approach that performance is given, forgetting the importance of feel and focussing on splits, times, weight and distance. 

Caro’s performance lay in her intuitive approach to her craft. Her love of water was instant and in the streaming for performance, she experienced a disconnect between her craft and her feel, her love for the very thing that made her come alive. 

During the podcast we talk about the importance of finding our own meaning in the information and methods given to us, the importance of following our Self and creating something uniquely our own on the road to potential. 

And we touch on where she has come since retiring from the pinnacle of her sport and that is @riseathetes, the mentorship program for young aspiring athletes by those who have walked the path and are now giving back to the next generation whilst realising their purpose after sport. 

We need mentors and guides who can listen, reframe and share their experiences to know we are not alone in what we go through. From professional sport to our chosen career or even being a parent, the benefits of mentors and the connection that comes with them, is worth its weight in gold.
