Patty’s guest on this episode of RadioAMB has been dubbed by Good Houskeeping, “A Mary Poppins for the new millennium” and Sophie Uliano personifies that description beautifully. A New York Times best-selling author as well as being featured on Oprah’s Earth Day show, where she taught Julia Roberts and Oprah her everyday gorgeously green tips!
Sophie and Patty will be talking about her philosophy for wellness, starting her career as an environmentalist, and how she was able to get more people interested in her cause by focusing on the body through the beauty side of things. Her approach is through Wellness Challenges, a set plan to help people reach physical and mental health goals. She also hosts huge wellness and beauty events, often times to sold-out crowds.
Listen in today 11:00am PST, as Patty and Sophie take a closer look at what it means to be Gorgeously Green and why we think that is important in all things in beauty. Only on Healthylife.net. Visit our website at AmericanMadeBeauty.com for more beauty and wellness inspiration.

Sofia has written three additional books
on healthy living she was featured on
Oprah’s Earth Day show where she taught
Julia Robert and Oprah for everyday
gorgeously green tips so he created an
accessible doorway for the average
person to walk through in life to a life
that is more holistic she took Green out
of the earth and into the real world

and three regular Facebook lives which
collectively have reached close to two
million women across the globe we’re
just delighted to have you with us
Sophie welcome so Sophie I with when we
talk about holistic you know that is a
word that all of us think about and hear
about tell us a little bit about your
background and how you got involved with
holistic health well you know myself
entry into it was primarily as as an
environmentalist or somebody who really
cared a lot about the environment and I
must say that actually I always been
interested even since I was you know in
my early teens in living in England way
back then in holistic and alternative
health care complementary health care as
it was called then so it’s always been
something that’s really interested me
along my paths and since way back when
but as an adult are taking many
different paths I got more more
interested in the environment and the
sort of stunning realization of the
state that we are in right now in how we
are often unwittingly without even
knowing through trashing and polluting
our environment and how that comes back
to affect our health directly and so
that really gave gave rise to me writing
my first book gorgeously green and you
know it’s interesting because someone
coming from Europe and in England in
particular they’re probably from a
relatively early age Oh
turn ative health and the awareness of
the environment is much more prevalent
in in England than it is here in the
United States would you tend to agree
with that I would I think it’s prime I
think it’s for two reasons I think one
there’s always been as long as I can
remember a very thriving if not slightly
underground and sort of a current with
with holistic health it’s always been
there in it and it’s a big deal and I
think the other thing is that England I
have to remind myself it’s an island
there’s much smaller to food sources and
and sort of everything is a lot more
insular and local and trackable right so
that I mean now in 2018 but when I was
growing up much more so yes so it really
what the the whole idea that you can’t
throw anything away
becomes a real reality when you live on
an island yeah yeah and so tell us how
those early early experiences began to
develop your philosophy on wellness how
does how does the environment translate
into wellness well you know when paddy
when I was writing my book on why my
book first got published my first book
gorgeously green I really had to find a
way of reaching people because you see
to me at the time the whole thing of the
sort of a global warming and and
whatever it might be what he didn’t
really resonate with people it was just
way too far away and too overwhelming
and it’s like kind of really not going
to affect me not much anyway that’s like
all the book gorgeously green because
the entry point was beauty very much
beauty product so I wrote the book like
12 years ago now so that twelve years
ago there was no conversation in the
general vernacular I mean there was
barely blogging there back then and
about about a Watson obviously products
so for me that was the entry point and
because I became so aware that our the
the environment quote-unquote is our
environment not starts with our body
right the closest environment when we’re
talking on the scientific level about
our environment or you’re talking about
disease prevention that’s that’s my body
so that’s where over the last ten years
I became much more involved in uniforms
of a better word wellness and trying to
be nutritionist because I understood how
absolutely everything is isn’t related
right exactly and so tell us a little
bit about what how the philosophy what’s
the core to your philosophy and how that
connects the environment and beauty you
know the core to my philosophy is that
well first off as as a wellness coach
because I do a lot of wellness coaching
now is that I don’t believe that there’s
a one-size-fits-all so that would be the
absolute core of my philosophy because I
teach people who are seventeen year olds
with acne to seven year olds with
rosacea and so whether we’re talking
about beauty or environmental changes or
dietary changes it’s an entirely
different set of teaching that I would
give to the 17 year old then I would get
to the 70 year old right so that that
really isn’t that underpins my
philosophy a is holistic which we’ve
talked about that word before but you
what if you work on one area of your
life I think it’s rather like a spider’s
web you know with that you would touch
that area of the web and the whole web
is affected I really believe that with
our health and wellness mm-hmm so you
come in at your little sweet spot and
for a lot of women that might be Beauty
it might be there
diagnostician or well you know I’m
preaching to the choir here you know a
lot of people who come to my community
of how to diagnosis you know often a
very scary diagnosis and suddenly
they’re scrambling and that oh my gosh
I’ve got to get all these toxins out of
my life or where do I start and food and
beauty and you know whatnot so so that’s
what that’s a great jumping-off point
for a lot of people and then of course
it just goes deeper and it it has that
ripple effect and you know before you
know it it’s a beautiful thing because
it just affects it affects the whole or
your whole organism and then that in
turn effects you know a community and
then the environment so it’s all abuse
for whipper hack right absolutely so
core philosophy there’s not a
one-size-fits-all approach and second is
that it’s a holistic so whatever easy
pathway yam gets you started you know
it’s just one step that can begin the
journey for a more holistic living pad
of journey you are so right and thank
you for putting it like that and keep it
making it so simple because I think a
lot of people get overwhelmed when they
think of wellness or I’ve got to get
healthier and fat me there’s so much
information on the internet and so many
different choices and you sort of panic
and feel so overwhelmed that you just
don’t know where to start and so
absolutely to take that little step and
go it’s almost like if you’re
decluttering your house don’t try to
tackle the whole house at once right the
sock drawer and then when you’ve done
that you’re like oh that’s really good I
love seeing my socks all organized now
I’m going to go on to my whatever it is
right cerebral and I have to take
exactly the same approach with wellness
right and so over tightrope the book and
over time you’ve sort of evolved into
actually having a business tell us a
little bit about how the business
started and what is the business today
well the business started as again a
word that we’re all well I don’t love to
work but it was a brand which you know I
was a book to start off but that’s all I
want
to do like a book and then as soon as I
wrote that book and it became a
best-seller because it was on Oprah
mm-hmm so almost overnight suddenly I
was quote-unquote
a brand or gorgeously queen with a brand
and suddenly I was propelled to speak
all over the place and and to create a
blog and create this website so that’s
really what kick-started everything for
me and it was a big kickstart
mm-hmm the biggest The Oprah effect but
but since then it really has just grown
and it taken many different sort of I
have many different arms to my business
now turning it into a business and I
think one of the biggest changes I made
was a few years ago about four or five
years ago I decided to change the brand
from gorgeously green to – Sophie
Giuliano because it because it’s I sort
of tend to stand front and center of the
brand and then under that umbrella of my
name came all the different things that
I do and so I have a lot of different
things I run a YouTube channel which is
called gorgeous Eagle you know where I
put out my film videos every single week
and put out new original content every
single week I’m very active on Facebook
so I sort of do a mixture of I do a lot
of free content so my obviously my
YouTube videos is free and interact with
my community a lot very hands-on so I do
– Facebook lives a week and again lots
of free content there and and then I
also run retreats Patti now which I love
beautiful wellness retreats where you
know members of my community or anybody
can come along it’s a really deeply
bonding experience I do events as well
so that’s just many of the different
things that I do but generally I just
create any
amount of content every lead and when
you’re thinking about tell us about the
some of the content that has been most
exciting for you to create in the last
couple of months I love that question
you know it’s a mixture of I love this
busting because with the you know with
the internet there’s obviously a lot in
my mind and putting my very British hat
on there’s a lot of nonsense right there
really truly is and so I’m a real
stickler for science and you know
peer-reviewed meta-analysis science
pretty much everything that I say has to
stand up to those tests and be very you
know after all have you know be puffy
sighted and whatnot so I love taking a
something that’s you know doing its
little rounds applause across the
blogosphere and that I’m just like I
can’t believe that there’re experts that
are actually saying that fill in the
blank is healthy I cannot believe it is
actually irresponsible at this point so
nothing gives me more pleasure than to
roll up my sleeves and go okay I really
have to all my ducks in a row because I
know I’m gonna get so much resistance or
not resistance a lot of questions right
one of the things I think that I sort of
gets my juices flowing as much as
possible as I love myth-busting so this
will give us an example of one that
you’ve done recently I’ll give you a
couple of my two most recent ones and
this is interesting if I’m talking about
this a lot because I’m working with a
lot of people on a cloud-based challenge
myself but I can talk about surely but
so one of them is coconut oil okay this
is a good one either this is a great one
oil has obviously done its runs over the
last five to ten years of being a
miracle food you know being a panacea
and people put it in that coffee and and
you know smoothies and water but the
fact of the matter is that I get really
defensive that one because it truly
isn’t a health food and you know so I
always approach everything
primarily from a point of view of
disease prevention so you know when
we’re looking at anything a particularly
a piece of food whatever you consume
food or a drink you know you look at it
and it’s like is that going to help to
prevent disease so that would be a thing
so in the in the case of cocoa
absolutely not it’s saturated fat and
and it will eventually you know all the
studies tell us that it is you know that
it can promote you know heart disease so
it’s not else so that’s not let’s not
pretend it is let’s let’s grow be you
know look at this through very mature
and and and very scientific eyes and and
understand that so I go really deeply
into it knowledge all the way tick tick
is it better because that you know then
blood fat book yes absolutely
but that doesn’t mean that you can go up
to eat you know huge amounts of it you
would have like a little pointy spoon
right and what about what is amazing
it’s amazing so for a topical it really
has some benefits obviously with the the
saturated fat
what about coconut water coconut water
I’m very ambivalent about okay it’s a
huge fad obviously much like alkaline
water and there’s a big money making
machine obviously behind all of these
things but and I love the taste of
coconut water and if I buy coconut water
I’ll buy you know it’s very expensive
because I’ll buy the raw coconut water
that’s you know not pasteurized and
tastes so good right it is very
expensive so I don’t use it very much
and if I’m making smoothie as I teach my
community to make tons and tons of
smoothies they go try use coconut water
or water
Michael useful
uh-huh there’s no elf benefits but
really to speak of with with using
coconut water even it’s been been
disproven the electrolyte hold the
elevator as good as a sports drink no
it’s not
but if you like a taste enjoy it right
right so the taste is fine but it’s not
necessarily it really is not a health
food so that that’s a huge mythbuster
yeah right I think my really kind of
British down to earth kind of honestly I
just don’t like the wool pulled over my
eyes right Jimmy right yeah two years
down the line and go oh gosh cuz that’s
what happened to me with beauty products
in my twenties and thirties I spent so
much money for an expensive antiaging
beauty product only to find when I
really started doing the research that I
was just it was completely and utterly
useless when I was putting on my face
right I want ways of money and you would
think though that with as much
information as as there is available
that it would seem to be easier to
discern between fact and fiction but but
it there’s so much of it it seems like
it’s completely overwhelming I think
it’s actually more difficult
hmm I really do I just could I speak to
women almost every day about this and
they are so confused because there’s so
many experts out there and there’s a lot
of people who have a you know an agenda
that they’re pushing right it might be
selling books selling supplements
selling whatever which might not be
completely your health being the most
important thing right do you what I mean
that word and your long-term health you
know we can all you know it’s easier to
get a best selling title nowadays if you
you know get allow people to have what
they want to eat and DiPalma some weight
loss but that’s to me that’s you know
this sort of eat fat get thin kind of
thing but
how does that how does that play out the
20-30 is time right right exactly and so
going back to some of the core
philosophies one size fits all it’s not
one size fits all it’s holistic so start
with the easy point of entry from a food
perspective obviously looking at really
understanding the foods they are eating
and foods as medicine
are you a big advocate for supplements
no I’m not okay I’m a big big advocate
for a whole Whole Foods for whole
plant-based foods because I think that
from my my own experience and and also
again going back to the science and and
really looking at all the you know
matter analysis of all the available
studies that we have today tell us you
know that supplements in most cases not
in all cases because again it’s so not a
one-size-fits-all so this is a real
blanket statement but in most cases of
individuals who are relatively healthy
you’re probably better off getting your
nutrients in the form that nature
intended them to be where they work
synergistically within themselves and
within the human organism which would be
in the fruit or vegetable right that’s
the best case scenario but then there
are exceptions and there are people
obviously who are sick who have serious
problems with autoimmune or whatever and
they can’t digest so that there’s a lot
of wiggle room with that when I would
recommend supplements or not recommend
supplements all right we’re going to
take a break and when we come back we’ll
further this conversation and talk about
why transparency has become so important
in wellness so stay with us we will be
right back

what does healthy life dotnet and
amazon.com have in common well they’re
both available on the Internet they both
give great value but most important most
of our positive program hosts and guests
are accomplished authors and their books
are available from you got at amazon.com
now it even gets better than that
because when you’re listening on air to
a healthy life net host or guests you
can go directly to amazon.com and you
can order your book while you’re still
listening to your favorite healthy life
net program so when you hear an author
you like go to the homepage of healthy
life net and click on amazon.com where
of people and radio unite no no healthy
life dotnet welcome back you’re
listening to radio a and B on healthy
life net I’m patty smoker your host and
I’m here with Sophie Giuliano who is the
author of gorgeously green and she is a
holistic educator and trainer for people
and we’ve been talking about the
approach that so if he believes in and
in particular about the quality of food
now so few before we took a break you
were talking about this at that in lieu
of supplements you’re a big advocate of
getting most of the nutrition from the
foods plant-based foods rather than
supplement and and the first question
that comes to my mind is in this day and
age which is with as much pollution as
there is not only domestically but
worldwide and the labeling process that
occurs around food there’s a lot of
people that say the reason why
supplements are important is because you
can’t get quality nutrition from foods
such a good question you know I I think
I think you can but you’ve obviously
you’ve obviously got to you’ve got to
lower down the food chain number one
which is why I advocate advocating
primarily Whole Foods plant-based diet
because first fathers we’re talking
about pollutants and contaminants which
you know now as we know that is global
it doesn’t choose what country acid rain
falls on all the dioxins right which are
carcinogens they can be ever so the way
and the oceans and waterways and rivers
and lakes as almost like city sewers now
I’m not too different to be a dark dead
be done on it
so that’s why I really advocate you know
you eat the lower the lowest you can
down on the food chain that’s the first
thing in order to avoid the really heavy
hitting pollutants and that would also
include the antibiotics and the hormones
and all of that and then I think that
sourcing food is very important you know
to your point that if you want a food
even a fruit or veggie that is that has
its full quota of nutrients then there’s
just certain things that need to be
taken into account you know one is that
it needs you know for me that it needs
to be local as possible I don’t want
something that’s been sitting in transit
or you know in cold storage and then
gassed which a lot of fruits and veggies
are so you know local is very very
important you know obviously seasonal
it’s very important I would say organic
in the most in most cases but the good
news with all of that is that I think
now with their such an explosion of
local and seasonal and farmers markets
and organic and artisan in every country
in the world now that it’s becoming
increasingly easier to find your food
source and to really say oh it came from
that farm which is five miles away and
to speak to the farmer and speak to the
grower and understand how they’re
growing and how you know if you really
want to go visit and find out are they
fertilize their soil and how what
nutrients are putting back into the soil
in order to get back in your veggies so
you know I think it’s exciting and I
think it’s an exciting time for us to be
living but in equal measure that the
food the big food industry is you know
providing us with products that are
killing us and creating a beat obesity
there’s a big underground swell of
completely offices right exactly and and
boat you know I go to my farmers market
and one of the things that I often see
is a lot of banners that say are
actually a very few number but banners
that do say organic and many of them say
we
we sell what we grow or grow what we
sell kind of thing but it doesn’t say
organic so what are we looking for to
discern if we are getting good quality
food great question because I see those
signs all the time that’s a new one we
grow we we sell what we grow because
there was a loving thing about farmers
markets just buying in kind of groceries
all right honey what really speaking I
go for certified organic in my farmers
market because in my the markets are I
go to there’s also a lot of pros that
will go they don’t have the
certification and they’ll go no
pesticide no spray and I’m like hmm yeah
I’m I’m not really I see your mouth
moving but I’m not hearing it because
you just talking about said grower
berries that look like perfect berries a
year-round you know so I get I get to
know the farmers and I get to know them
really well and there are some so most
if I was going to a farmers market that
I didn’t know anybody in it you know in
a different area or state or country
whatever I would probably go look I’m
going to spend my heart on earn money
then it’s going to have to be certified
organic sorry because they have had to
work so hard and paste so much money in
order to jump through so many loopholes
to get that certification right though I
want to value them you know for doing
that for me and providing really great
food sometimes there are exceptions
there are a few sellers at them one of
the markets I go to that I know them
because I visited the farm I’ve spoken
at length to the farmers and they
haven’t got the certification but their
farming practices are really sustainable
and they truly don’t use pesticides or
herbicides so it’s just kind of I ask a
lot of questions do a lot of research
it’s important it’s Mike
hard-earned money and they’re not they
don’t come in expense that those farmers
markets I can drop you know what a pass
right even know it so if I’m spending
that money I really need to know what
what I’m buying right now I know you
partner with a number of different
brands because of the fact that they are
very transparent both in food but also
in beauty can you give us a name of one
of the say beauty brands that you’re
particularly excited about because of
the kinds of transparency that they
offer customers I’ll give you I’ll give
you two completely opposite ends of the
scale hmm so one is a small very small
band and it’s in Atlanta Georgia and of
course sunshine botanicals and the owner
is a Emily Frick she is a holistic
esthetician and so I reached out to her
a few years ago because I can’t remember
how I heard about her but I did and we
struck up a friendship on the phone and
we just I realized that she was an
absolute treasure trove of information
and that she was so smart and she’s so
knew her stuff you know and so she was
one person and so that’s this very small
brand and I know you know she’s very
transparent about everything and on a
larger scale as a brand called my shell
which is huge and they’re in big huge
drugstores but I also known
behind-the-scenes on that one and
they’re very very transparent about
their ingredient decks and absolutely
everything that’s in them great
yeah and sunshine botanical is actually
an american-made beauty brand and one of
our partners as well so it’s always
great to find those people that really
know the end of the day it’s all about
research and taking the time to figure
out what are those choices that you’re
making about what you’re putting between
your lips we’re going to take another
break and when we come back we’ll talk a
little bit more about the subject and
I’ll dive a little bit into the wellness
challenge that Sophie has developed to
help people get involved with her

staying with us this is patty Schmucker
here on radio AMD and I’m here with
Sophia Leon Oh
who is the author of gorgeously green
and a holistic health coach we’ve been
talking a little bit about some of her
philosophies and Sophie I understand
that there are various different ways
that people can engage your services
tell us a little bit about some of the
easy path ways to get started with you
well one of the things I love to do is I
create these challenges because I think
it’s a really good way for for somebody
to get involved in what I do and
challenge themselves I’m a huge fan of a
challenge because do I create a
challenge for 30 days or 31 days and
which pretty much anybody can do
something for 30 or 31 days and the
reason why I love the idea of a
challenge is that you go all in and
you’re like okay I can do it I can do 31
days or 30 days I create when I create
these challenges and somebody signs up
or registers for them right now I have a
plant power to challenge going on which
is all exciting what would you call it a
plant
it’s a thirty-one plant a 31-day plant
powered challenge okay everybody signed
up for 31 days it was for the month of
July I’m doing another in October and
basically you sign up and you get a
video for me every single day of the
challenge motivating you giving you
information giving you recipes and you
get lots of different stuff but I think
one of the most valuable things is that
we create a private Facebook community
for each challenge and what I’ve seen in
these communities is mind blowing the
support and the love
and the camaraderie of everybody who’s
doing it together and they’re all acting
each other alone and helping each other
and inspiring each other and it’s just
awesome and they celebrate each other’s
wins a lot of women lose quite a lot of
weight on these challenges so that
although it’s not about weight loss that
is just a lovely added bonus and so when
things like that happen now I guess and
everybody’s spending big you know
balloon emojis and it’s just wonderful I
have the next one is coming up in
October and there’s always a little bit
of a you know waiting list so I always
recommend people what they do is just go
to Sophie Juliano comm /dr guide because
when you go to my father guys you will
get three free ebooks which kind of get
you started off on the whole wellness
thing that I teach so you get freebies
immediately and then you’re
automatically acted in to find out the
minute the next challenge goes live and
I really encourage people to do that
because I feel good but I didn’t hear
and I’m too late right like oh no no no
get on the case mm-hmm yes yes and so
tell us a little bit about some of the
components of the other thirty one day
challenge what it is what the challenge
basically is is that I’m saying I’m
throwing down the gauntlet and I’m
saying look try I want you to eat
completely whole food plant-based for 31
days so that would be that you’re not
going to eat any animal products
whatsoever and the kind of promise if
you like is that you will you know a lot
of us you know really want more energy
but it gives we get older so the sort of
promises are that you know if you have
unwanted pounds to lose then they will
start to go and you know you’ll get a
tremendous amount of energy and those
are the first two things that people
start finding and then already that
people having their labs tested and
cholesterol goes down and high blood
pressure goes down
that really is the only rule but then
there’s a huge amount of information
that gets delivered to everybody because
I have participants who have been clock
based for quite a few years and they
just want to challenge themselves to you
recipes and to spice it up for their and
they just want a bit of inspiration and
then I happen a lot of women who are
completely meat and potatoes and their
husbands and their family is a 100
percent carnivores wouldn’t even dream
[Laughter]
and they get on to the group every day
and I like to leave ladies I see fellas
and so and so over every what I trying
to say every little there’s no stone
unturned I anticipate every single one
of these roadblocks and that is what is
delivered in the form of an email from
me to you and so so give us a hint
because I mean I would say that from for
a significant number of people when you
throw out that it is 31 days of whole
plant-based foods no meat that it’s an
gainst oper so what do you what do you
suggest or whether some of the the ways
that you overcome that objection okay
well first off I think the first way
that I overcome the objection is I’ll go
just try it because you just got to look
at what you’re going to get digging up
something just it’s just for a very
short amount of time 31 days and that
goes very quickly as a blink of an eye
and if you’ve been eating a certain way
for thirty years you know then you can
go back so I think that’s the thing that
gets a lot of people I’m like just do it
right and then after 31 days you can
100% I’m not like doing rules giving you
rules you can go back to what
you want most people don’t because they
feel so amazing right and then I think
the other thing that is so important is
that interestingly the deliciousness a
lot of us are foodies so I’m a real
foodie I love cooking and eating and
every single day I look forward to every
meal and dream about it so and I’m
finding that on these challenges a lot
of the women are a lot of them at the
same way so all you see in these private
groups of these extraordinary
photographs everybody photographs all
their meals so you’re like oh my gosh
that’s the most mouth-watering thing
I’ve ever seen I can’t even stand it
some delicious sheets are covered in
pesto and roasted grilled veggies and
maybe a little pattering of vegan cheese
and then the next day we’re going out
and making that or you know some
delicious lasagna and really what I do
patty is I take all the dishes that we
used to eating a lot of a slight the
comfort foods whether it’s a lasagna a
chili pasta mac and cheese a pizza and
we make these little tweaks to it that
are actually pretty easy so it’s not
reinventing the wheel and it’s certainly
not having to look at recipes with the
31 ingredients to me right right exactly
even looking at a plate of salad leaves
and mung bean sprouts right nobody’s
going to assist I wouldn’t last a day
right July 8th and it is true though
that you know in our lifetime and you
know I’m saying within the last 2025
years
healthy foods have become more sating
more flavorful there’s just so much more
variety because of people like you who
have opened up the cookbook
with a different set of eyes and has
given us more options so that is a very
very exciting prospect but food is where
it really all begins we’re going to take
a last break and when we come back we’ll
further this conversation and talk about
some of the other upcoming events in
2018 and what to expect if you decide to
go on one of the retreats stay with us

welcome back it’s Patti Schmucker here
at radio a and B on healthy life net and
we’re just wrapping up this show today
with Sophia Leon o who is a holistic
nutritional health coach and we’ve been
talking about some of the philosophies
that she has in leading people through
this program that is not a one
one-size-fits-all and is focused on
giving people an easy pathway to start a
journey of holistic health so if you
tell us about some of the events that
you have coming up here in 2018
well the next event is sites on the
podrace challenge
I have a retreat so I run these retreats
throughout the year and the next one is
in Palm Springs in in October and it is
the hello gorgeous
retreat and this is a third of this
particular kind of retreat that I’ve
done it is so much fun so I co-host it
with actually my bestie from the UK
she’s been with the best friends for 30
years and she is an osteopathic doctor
and she is hillarious so we I can’t even
tell you Perry we this retreat is the
love of my life because it’s so unique
because not only do we go very deep we
do a lot of like inner work you know
really coming to terms with it you know
it retrieves it’s a time for reflection
on really sort of recalibrating I think
that’s what I like to own retreat just
recalibrate everything so there’s a lot
of in in a work and and and in there
peeling but there is so much laughter
and I think that’s what really is the
hallmark of this particular retreat is
the laughter
and then so that’s coming up in in
October great and she said Palm Springs
and and what what can’t what kind of
environment will it be n so it is a
beautiful resort which is called the
Miramonte resort and we chose the Mara
Monta resort because it is it’s very
it’s very quiet and it doesn’t have that
corporate feel not I don’t love the
corporate feel and I’m running a retreat
I like to have something it’s a little
bit unique and a little bit different
and it has these beautiful lemon and
orange groves all throughout the grounds
so we do yoga in the hub garden
surrounded by all these beautiful trees
and herbes we dine outside under the
stars you know in these in these citrus
orchards and and it has a beautiful spa
as well again not a run-of-the-mill
cookie-cutter spa but one that’s very
unique where we do sound bath journeys
and you know hard reading session so we
do a lot of fun stuff as well as these
so and that’s why I chose that Resort
and also because it’s not hard to get to
as well you just fly into LAX or you can
fly in and we organized transportation
from LAX or you can fly directly into
conference itself and what kind of
investments should somebody expect for
its four four four days right it’s a
four day retreat okay and you will
so you yes you use really good what was
your question again oh what’s the cost
what would a runs from and it depends
whether it is single occupancy or double
occupancy but it’s around 3,000 okay and
you can you know you could you can get
you can make the whole thing a little
less if you decide to come with the best
fee or even if you want to do double
occupancy but you haven’t got a best
feel you can’t wrangle anybody to come I
have
most wonderful retreat director we
really run like I’ll call it a concierge
service so Catherine who everybody gets
to know extremely well signs up and
she’s my right-hand girl
so she’ll basically make anything
possible well she’s had people go
Catherine I want to come but I don’t
have better and cap ranges I don’t know
how but she kind of makes everything
happen right right and so and is it is
it just women or do couples go what what
what’s normally the size of the audience
this is just women that take care of
retreat and we’ve agonized on whether to
open it up to men and some women have
said that they want to bring thousands
along and we said no because we find
that some of the dates in a work we do I
think some women just feel safe there
just to be just women and it’s our time
away from our families it’s our time
away from our you know other half so
just women and and what else you ask me
ask me one more question how big of a
crowd have a big of a we cap it off for
20 people okay and this is a large
resort and there’s sort of quite a few
of us in there so we found that that
group size has been magical because half
the group will be doing one thing and
then the other group will be doing
something else
and then we all convened together to do
whatever there’s a lot of customization
that goes on as well right so once you
sign up we just we we captain works with
you to decide how you want your retreat
experience to be but I would say I mean
that the overriding point and and the
thing why everybody keeps coming back we
have we have at least 50% alarms at
every single retreat is because of the
bonding mmm-hmm and I really would say
that if you know I encourage women to
come on their own if they if they
haven’t got a better or sister or
something they want a brain because when
you come to a hello gorgeous retreat you
will make best friends for life mmm-hmm
I don’t
like me but that is what happens right
well we’re just like this really really
tight group now it’s as family and it’s
so beautiful to see you know how that
that journey continues because the one
thing when I started retreats that I
didn’t want to do was give somebody a
retreat experience like here you go
here’s your two spots and your you know
detour whatever it is and then put them
back on the plane and go goodbye right
right because that to me is not it’s not
that’s not how I care for people it’s
not how I want to be cared for
right it’s not how I wish to care for
anybody who invests in me and my
community and my wife right exactly
exactly well you’ve done some amazing
things Sophie and it’s so exciting to
have the opportunity to tell your story
and in the minute that we have left
what’s what lies ahead that you’re most
excited about oh I think what lies ahead
I think a couple of things I’m very
excited about the retreats that we’re
going to be building up for 2019 so stay
tuned for that because there’s going to
be a lot of different kinds of movies
there will be men retreats as well and
I’ve got a few surprises
it’s fighting surprises up my sleeve so
very excited about that and also very
excited about some of the digital
services that I’m going to be offering
because I realized that not everybody
can come to it the physical retreats so
we’re really sort of starting to build
out more of more digital programs where
we’re wherever you are in the world you
can you can become you can be involved
at a lower cost and you know just
obviously from the comfort of your own
home that’s great well thank you thank
you for taking the time to be with us
today and we will we will look forward
to having an opportunity I’m going to
take your challenge in October that will
be very exciting and let’s plot the
journey
