Injury crash shuts down Hwy 3 in Castle Rock NAFRS responded this morning to a very serious injury accident requiring 2 helicopters. Dakota County and State Patrol were on scene. State Patrol Lt. Tiffani Schwiegart said the road was expected to remain closed until about 10:30 as investigators reconstructed the scene. 37 year old Shannon Kerr of Lakeville was driving a minivan eastbound on Co. Rd. 86 when she collided with 45 year old Scott Suess of Apple Valley who was driving a semi northbound on Hwy 3. According to the State Patrol website, Shannon is listed in serious condition along with her 7 year old daughter. Her 4 year old daughter was also injured. Suess is listed as injured while his passenger 50 year old John Thomas of Dundas was not injured. Northfield will seek 3% preliminary tax levy The Northfield Council must approve a preliminary tax levy at their meeting tomorrow night. During last week’s work session they listened to Finance Director Melanie Lammers lay out a 3% increase scenario. Mayor Graham stressed that this is preliminary and it doesn’t mean your taxes will go up that much as it depends on the market value of your home which is set by Rice County. If Council approves the staff-recommended 3%, it can always be lowered as the final number doesn’t have to be set until December. Dundas to seek 4% preliminary levy The Dundas Council meets tonight. They also must set their preliminary levy. Staff will seek a 4% increase which amounts to just over $713,000. City Administrator John McCarthy will be in studio tomorrow morning at 8:45. DJJD benefits local charities The Defeat of Jesse James Days celebration gives back to local non-profits. Entertainment center co-chair Dave Vesledahl explains that various groups use the opportunity to raise funds. Volunteer adults with the Special Olympics sells tokens, while other groups such as 4H and sports groups pour beverages (listen to the podcast for a list) The adults are paid by the hour and also set out tip jars. In many cases this is that groups largest fundraiser. Vesledahl said these people work very hard but have fun while they’re doing it. He says we should be proud of all the groups (over 7 just for the entertainment center) and that money stays local to help these organizations fulfill their goal. Ninety volunteers work the Entertainment A number of other groups include the Sertoma Club, the Lions Club, the Masons, the Swim Club and many more. Klobuchar makes Northfield appearance today U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar will be signing copies of her book “The Senator Next Door” today at Content Bookstore from 12:30 p.m to 2 p.m. She’ll then be one of the featured speakers as Carleton College kicks off their 2015-16 academic year. The presentations begin at 3 o’clock on the lawn west of Hulings Hall. The event, which is free and open to the public.
